Upcoming ESI Maintenance: 2025-06-03

Hi all!

Tomorrow (2025-06-03) during downtime (11:00 UTC) we will push some changes to ESI which will cause a short moment of interruption for several endpoints. The following is scheduled:

  • Increase the capacity for esi-planets. Currently it is hitting CPU limits in the peak of the day. You guys really like that Planetary Interaction.

  • For routes in esi-characters and esi-corporations that have a “legacy” variant, forcefully route them internally to their non-legacy variant. These older versions use an older method of requesting, where there is also a much better variant that uses Quasar. This will be the last of the duality we have in ESI, where not all traffic flows through the same route depending on the version used. With this change everyone is (internally) using the same code-path. This requires no change on your end, we’ll make sure your application isn’t impacted.

  • Upgrade eve-glue to the latest to ensure the new Notification Types are understood by the system again.

This maintenance should take ~5 minutes and we expect very little interruption. But especially if you use the older versions for esi-characters and esi-corporations, you can expect some 404s just after 11:00 UTC. Moments later they will be restored and return data as normal.

In the coming weeks we will slowly rotate out the old ESI router, one route at the time. The main thing that you will notice here is that it becomes irrelevant which version you send: they all end up in the same place. These changes mentioned earlier already sort of make that happen, but over the next few weeks we will make it official. You should not notice anything related to this, but in case you do: please find us on Discord.

So you wonder: but how will versions work going forward? Soon™, in a later blogpost we will get into that. But it won’t be via the URL anymore (spoilers: it will be a header). It will be much easier for both you and us, and won’t be per route anymore. But more on that another time.
